The United Kingdom is imposing a sweeping new package of 100 sanctions aimed at curbing Russia’s ability to finance and sustain its war against Ukraine, The Guardian reported on Friday.

The measures focus heavily on Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” of oil tankers and electronics firms supplying the Kremlin’s military industry, according to the news outlet, which covered remarks made by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said during a visit to Kyiv.

“The UK will not stand idly by as Putin continues his barbaric invasion of Ukraine,” Cooper said in a statement. “The security of NATO and Ukraine are crucial to the UK’s security.”

The sanctions come just days after Russia launched its largest air assault of the war, unleashing more than 800 missiles and drones across Ukraine in a single night, a sharp escalation that included violations of NATO airspace over Poland and direct hits on key administrative buildings in Kyiv, including the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers and offices of the British Council and EU delegation.

Among the 100 new targets are 70 ships purportedly involved in transporting Russian oil through shadow operations, attempting to bypass Western price caps and sanctions, and 30 entities and individuals providing Russia with critical materials for its weapons programs, such as electronics, explosives, and chemicals.
